Men’s volleyball loses in three sets at Siena Heights

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College men's volleyball team fell to Siena Heights University in three sets (25-17, 25-19, 25-18) tonight at the SHU Fieldhouse.

- The teams traded 3-0 runs to start the first set. The Saints then seized a three-point advantage on three occasions. After the last time, freshman Aaron Smith slammed down back-to-back kills to make the score 11-10. The Comets did not get any closer for the rest of the set.
- The second set was back-and-forth. Holding onto a slim 12-11 lead, the Saints used a 6-0 run to go up 18-11. Olivet fought back and closed the gap to four points twice at 21-17 and 22-18. Siena Heights scored three of the last four points to win the set 25-19.
- The Comets led 3-1 in the third set. The Saints fought back to tie the score at 5-5. Olivet responded with a 3-0 run before Siena Heights used a 9-1 run to take a 14-9 lead. The Comets were never able to recover from the deficit.
- Senior Dan Hayes finished with a match-high 10 kills. He had zero attack errors on 16 swings for a .625 hitting percentage.
- Smith was next with six kills.
- Senior Aaron Giorgi registered a match-best 31 set assists.
- Senior Deivan Prince topped the defense with nine digs, followed by Giorgi with eight.
- Bryce Johnson tallied a team-best nine kills, followed by Kevin Gomez with seven.
- Keegan Crawford recorded 25 set assists.
- Emilier De Jesus led all players with 10 digs.
- Olivet opens Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) play Friday night with a 7 p.m. match at University of Mount Union (Ohio). The Purple Raiders are in their first season as a member of the MCVL.
