Pringle becomes all-time kills leader in three-set loss to Maranatha Baptist at CUW Invitational

MEQUON, Wis. – The Olivet College men's volleyball team dropped a three-set match tonight to Maranatha Baptist University in its first match at the Concordia University Wisconsin Invitational, held at the R. John Buuck Field House in Mequon.

Records: Olivet 0-4 overall, Maranatha Baptist 2-6 overall
- In the first set, the Sabercats built a seven-point cushion, 11-4. The Comets chipped away at their deficit and trailed by only one point, 17-16. Maranatha Baptist scored the next three points on Olivet errors. The Comets came back and closed the gap to a single point, 22-21 before the Sabercats used two kills and an Olivet attack error for the final three points of the set.
- The second set was back-and-forth, and neither team led by more than two points until Maranatha Baptist went ahead 12-9. The Comets put three straight points on the scoreboard to tie the set at 12-12. The teams traded points to create another tie. The Sabercats then scored the next points and did not relinquish their advantage for the rest of the set.
- Maranatha Baptist had a wire-to-wire lead in the third set.
- For the match, senior Brock Pringle had a match-high 15 kills to go along with posting a team-leading .371 attack percentage.
- Freshman Aaron Smith contributed six kills and three service aces.
- Senior Dan Hayes was next with five kills.
- Senior Aaron Giorgi had team-highs in set assists (29) and digs (nine).
- Phillip Holbrook tallied a team-best 13 kills.
- Isaac McKee finished with seven kills and hit at a .583 clip.
- Taylor Dafoe dished out 25 set assists.
- Joel Depue had 13 digs and six kills.
- With his 15 kills, Pringle became Olivet's all-time leader with 541. He is already the Comets' career leader in matches played (71), sets played (241), attack attempts (1611), digs (406) and assisted blocks (106). Pringle needs three aces and four total blocks to become the all-time leader in those categories.
- Olivet is back in action tomorrow at the CUW Invitational. The Comets face Millikin (Ill.) University at 10 a.m. CT/11 a.m. ET, followed by a match against the host Falcons.
