How It Happened
In the first set, a block assist from Jack McGuire and Troy Kates had the Stars ahead 16-11. Later in the set, the Griffins trimmed the deficit down to 22-20 on Cameron Graves' kill, however, the Stars closed out on a 3-0 run with a solo block from Ethan Klosak securing the 25-20 win.
In the second, the Griffins grabbed a 13-11 lead on a Nate Paasch kill. The Stars, though answered with a 4-0 run and that forced Fontbonne to take a timeout. Out of the break, the Stars lead 23-19 but a Dominican service error and a kill from Graves had Fontbonne right back in it at 23-21.
Dominican was able to fend off Fontbonne on a kill from Troy Kates and a Griffins attack error for the 25-21 victory.
In the third, the Stars started out fast opening with a 15-10 lead on George Kougan's kill. They expanded on it out to 22-14 and despite the Griffins late efforts the Stars were able to hang on for the 25-20 set and match win on Kougan's kill.
Inside The Numbers
- Fontbonne ended with 28 kills and a .111 hitting percentage.
- Dominican finished with 39 kills and just nine errors for a .366 hitting percentage.
- At the net, the Stars finished with 17 block assists.
Fontbonne Leaders
- Cameron Graves led with a team-high eight kills.
- Braden Woolsey and Grant Garza had five kills each, while Zach Herran and Lee Kruetzmann finished with four each.
- Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell totaled 24 assists and tied for the team-high with two block assists.
- Zach Rothstein posted a team-high seven digs.
Dominican Leaders
- George Kougan finished with a match-high nine kills and tied for a match-high five block assists.
- Tory Kates added eight kills, a match-high .583 hitting percentage, and five block assists.
- Ethan Klosak contributed eight kills each.
- Jack McGuire registered a double-double with a match-high 33 assists and 10 digs.
- Bregin DeMarco concluded with a match-high 11 digs.
