Carthage and Mount St. Joseph Begin Season in Top 15

LEXINGTON, Ky. (MCVL.org) - Representing the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League in this year's American Volleyball Coaches Association Preseason Top 15 Poll are Carthage and Mount St. Joseph.

The Red Men were picked as the favorites in the MCVL this season and No. 9 in the AVCA Poll after a 21-3 season in 2017. Carthage returns 12 letter winners and four starters from a season ago and open its season on Friday, Jan. 12 against Marymount, who was picked tied for the No. 14 spot with the Lions.

MSJ enters sharing the No. 14 ranking with Marymount after a 21-7 season and finishing at No. 14 a year ago. The Lions advanced to the MCVL Tournament a season ago, but will be without both of its All-MCVL picks from last season and open their campaign on Friday, Jan. 19 against St. Joseph's.

Reigning national champions, Springfield, were selected as the No. 1 team, garnering 20 of the 22 possible votes, for the third consecutive season.
