Schiferl and Walsh Named MCVL Players of the Week
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (MCVL.org) - Augustana's Matt Schiferl (Defensive) and Carthage's Evan Walsh (Offensive) have been named Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League Players of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

In their first year of competition, the Vikings put Division III teams on alert last week, pulling the upset of seventh-ranked Benedictine, defeating the Eagles in five. Playing a significant role in the upset was Schiferl, who averaged 5.0 digs per set, finishing with 36 digs during Augustana's 2-0 week that also included a 3-0 sweep of Greenville as a non-conference opponent. Schiferl ranks third in the MCVL with 92 digs this season. This is the first player of the week honor for Augustana.

As one program celebrates early success in its history, another continues to operate at the same high octane that it has known for years. The third-ranked Red Men extended their hot start to the 2018 campaign with another perfect week following a 3-0 sweep of Lakeland. Walsh was clicking on all cylinders on Friday night, hitting .429 and finishing with 12 kills while adding nine digs, five service aces and two blocks. Across the league, Walsh leads the MCVL with 25 service aces and all-around scoring, averaging 4.3 points per set, which currently sits as the best in Division III. Walsh is the first Carthage player of the week winner this season and 21st since the inception of the league in 2015.
