Burkhardt and Schiferl Named MCVL Players of the Week
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The play of Michael Burkhardt (Adrian) and Matthew Schiferl (Augustana) warranted MCVL Player of the Week honors, as selected by the league's coaches. Burkhardt becomes the first player in school history to be named player of the week while Schiferl earns his second recognition this season.

Burkhardt's monster performance against Olivet made for an easy decision, as the junior rattled off 14 kills on 19 swings for a .684 attack percentage. His 14 kills was the first time this season that he broke into double-digits and second time that he registered an attack percentage of .600 or better, having previously hit .600 against Lawrence Tech.

Schiferl's defense led the Vikings to their first MCVL win in program history, defeating Loras 3-2 on the road. In five sets against the Duhawks, Schiferl totaled 19 digs, his second 19-dig performance of the week. Schiferl's previous weekly honor from the league came after his 25-dig performance against Benedictine on Feb. 3. Currently, Schiferl leads the league with 216 digs and ranks second in digs per set at 2.96.
