Plenty at Stake in Final Weekend

Plenty at Stake in Final Weekend
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (MCVL.org) - The final weekend of the 2018 regular season is here and there's plenty of drama on the table in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League.

Three teams have already clinched their postseason berths, with North Central, Mount St. Joseph and Carthage all at either 7-0 or 6-1. For those three, this weekend provides plenty of opportunity to solidify seeding.

Before first serve on Friday, a three-way tie for the No. 1 seed is still a possibility and it just so happens that all three teams in contention are in Ohio this weekend.

For North Central, it can clinch the No. 1 seed with a sweep of Mount St. Joseph and Wittenberg or a split. MSJ can claim the top spot with and only with a win over both North Central and Carthage. The Red Men, the final team in the mix for the top spot, needing wins against MSJ and Wittenberg along with two losses by North Central.

The fourth and final tournament spot is down to four teams including Augustana, Fontbonne, Loras and Wittenberg. Both a three-way and four-way tie are still possible. If it ends in a four-way tie, Augustana would earn the final spot based on the head-to-head tiebreaker. At time of publication, Friday's match between Fontbonne and Loras has the most potential for impact in the weekend. A loss by the Duhawks would eliminate them from postseason potential and put Fontbonne in the driver's seat.

The 2018 MCVL Tournament is scheduled for Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14, on the campus of the No. 1 seed.
