Waumans, Cromwell and Sanchez Headline MCVL Weekly Team

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (MCVL.org) - Carthage's Braeden Waumans and Kai Cromwell as well as Mount St. Josephs' Rey Sanchez headline as this week's honorees in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League's Player of the Week.

Waumans receives Offensive Player of the Week powered the Red Men to a 2-0 week taking down Aurora and Marian with two sweeps. The Ohio native put down 23 kills on 52 attempts leading the team in points with 27.0. In his match against Marian, he finished with a .409 hitting percentage and added three blocks.

Cromwell also aided in two dominating performances for Carthage but on the defensive side earning himself Co-Defensive Player of the Week. The senior put up 17 digs on the week averaging 2.83 digs per set. In their win over the Spartans, Cronwell led the defense with 10 digs as well as added two service aces.

Along with Cromwell, Sanchez earns Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his performance. In a tough week for the Lions, Sanchez put up 16 digs in through three matches with averaging 1.78 digs per set. The Colorado native also knocked down 11 blocks with six coming in their match against Benedictine.

For the second consecutive week Carthage brought home an MCVL Player of the Week honors and recorded two players of the week for the first time since Evan Walsh and Tony Allen were both player of the weeks on Feb. 27, 2018. The Lions record their first MCVL Player of the Week of the 2019 season and first since April 3, 2018.
