Men's volleyball falls to NCAA Division III No. 1 Carthage in three sets

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's volleyball team hosted NCAA Division III No. 1 Carthage on Friday night in H.J. Long Gymnasium and lost in three sets.

Despite the sweep, the Panthers had some stretches where they gave Carthage everything they could handle.  Greenville lost with set scores of 25-17, 25-20, 25-20.

The Panthers steadily improved in the match, starting with a line of 5 kills/6 errors/26 attacks/-0.038 hitting percentage in the first set and improving to 11/5/39/.154 in the final set.

In the second and third games, Greenville excited their fans.  George Black held the ball for serve with the score 20-19 in Carthage's favor in the second set, but the Red Men managed to collect five of the last six points to win the game.

The Panthers also scored the first four points of the third game and later led 12-7 before Carthage converted 18 of the last 26 points to wrap up the win.

Kyle Ward ended with nine points for Greenville on seven kills, a service ace, and two block assists.

Nick Corrigan was active in the back row with 10 digs, and Isaiah Canales made his presence known at the net with a solo block and two block assists.

Tanner Smith provided 23 set assists and seven digs.

The Panther (10-11, 0-3 MCVL) schedule doesn't get much easier as they host No. 8 North Central on Saturday at 1 p.m.
