UOlivet posts 1-1 record at Adrian Tri

ADRIAN, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's volleyball team posted a 1-1 record in a non-league triangular, hosted by Adrian College and held at the Merillat Sports & Fitness Center. The Comets swept Maranatha Baptist (Wis.) University in three sets before losing in three sets to the host Bulldogs.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: Olivet defeated Maranatha Baptist 25-14, 25-17, 25-15

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets scored the first point of the opening set and never looked back. For the set, Olivet slammed down 14 kills to only five for the Sabrecats. Olivet also hit at a .565 clip.
- The second set was much closer than the first. Neither team was able to take a significant lead until late in the set. With the score knotted at 16-16, the Comets ended the set on a 9-1 run.
- In the third set, Olivet put the three points on the scoreboard before MBU scored the next four points. The Comets responded with a 5-0 run take an 8-4 lead. Olivet did not relinquish its advantage for the rest of the set.
- For the match, the Comets totaled 36 kills and posted a .382 hitting percentage compared to 15 kills and .088 attack percentage for the Sabrecats.
FOR THE COMETS
- Sophomore Andy Hok finished with a match-best 13 kill, .684 attack percentage and 11 digs.
- Freshman Brodye Buning had six kills, followed by sophomore Amarion Lawson with five.
- Senior Will Mensching tallied 19 set assists and four aces. The aces are tied for second-most in a three-set match in UOlivet history.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The early part of the first set was close, with several tied scores and lead changes. After a 9-9 score, the Bulldogs went on a 10-4 run. Olivet fought back with five straight points to close the gap to a point, 19-18. Adrian scored six of the final eight points to win the set, 25-20.
- The Comets held a pair of three-point leads, 10-7 and 11-8, at the beginning of the second set. The Bulldogs came back with an 8-1 burst to gain a 16-12 lead. Olivet battled back to even the score at 19-19, 20-20 and 21-21. Three kills and a service ace ended the set in Adrian's favor, 25-21.
- The third set started off like the first, as neither team led by more than one point until the Comets were able to go ahead by two points, 11-9. The Bulldogs countered with a 6-1 run for a 15-12 lead. Olivet used a 7-3 spurt to take the lead back, 19-18. Adrian closed out the set with a 7-1 run to win the match.
FOR THE COMETS
- Freshman Silas Martin shared match-high honors with 13 kills.
- Sophomore Aiden Chamblee finished with seven kills.
- Mensching dished out 24 set assists.
- Hok and junior Matthew Tollar each recorded eight digs.

- Olivet finishes a busy weekend with a home match tomorrow against Lakeland (Wis.) University, with first serve from the Cutler Event Center set for 2 p.m.
