UOlivet drops three-set match to Baldwin Wallace in MCVL-opener

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's volleyball team began Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League play with a three-set loss to Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University tonight inside the Cutler Event Center.

- Final Score: Baldwin Wallace defeated Olivet 25-14, 25-16, 25-21

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Comets scored the first point of the opening set, the Yellow Jackets scored the next five points. BW held the lead for the remainder of the set, winning it by a 25-14 score.
- The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second set. Olivet fought back to close the gap to a single point, 5-4. The Comets did not get any closer for the rest of the set, as the Yellow Jackets won it, 25-16.
- In the third set, Olivet built a four-point cushion, 6-2. BW responded with five straight points to take a 7-6 lead. The teams traded points to create four tied scores. After a 10-10 deadlock, the Comets scored two points to go up 12-10. The Yellow Jackets fought back to even the score at 13-13 and 14-14. A BW service error put Olivet ahead 15-14 before three consecutive Yellow Jacket points made the score 17-15. Following another BW service error, the Yellow Jackets used a 5-1 spurt to take their largest lead of the set, 22-17.
FOR THE COMETS
- Freshman Silas Martin slammed down eight of the 12 Olivet kills.
- Senior Will Mensching dished out 11 assists.
- Sophomore Andy Hok recorded a team-high five digs.
- Sophomore Amarion Lawson tallied six blocks (one solo and five assisted).
UP NEXT
- Olivet hosts the University of Mount Union (Ohio) tomorrow afternoon, starting at 12 p.m. The Purple Raiders defeated Adrian College tonight in three sets at the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center in Adrian.
