UOlivet tripped up by Wittenberg in three sets

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The University of Olivet men's volleyball team was defeated by Wittenberg (Ohio) University in a Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) match tonight at the Pam Evans Smith Arena.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the opening set, the Comets scored the first point before the Tigers scored the next three pointers. Wittenberg held the lead for the rest of the set, winning it by a 25-11 score.
- The Tigers clawed their way to a 3-0 lead in the second set. Wittenberg did not relinquish its advantage, posting a 25-9 win.
- In the third set, Olivet jumped out to a 3-0 lead after senior Will Mensching pounded down a kill and freshman Silas Martin served back-to-back aces. The Tigers put six of the next seven points on the scoreboard to take a 6-4 lead. The Comets took advantage of a service error and attack error to even the score. Wittenberg responded with two points to go up 8-6. Olivet closed the gap to a single point on three occasions but failed to tie or take the lead for the remainder of the set.
- The Comets finished the match with 17 kills compared to 42 for the Tigers. Wittenberg also hit at a higher clip, 48.5 percent to 4.9 percent.
FOR THE COMETS
- Martin and sophomore Aiden Chamblee each recorded five kills, followed by Mensching with four.
- Sophomore Andy Hok tallied 11 set assists.
- Mensching had four of the eight Olivet digs.
