Men’s Volleyball Defeats Mount St. Joseph 3-0 in MCVL Action

CINCINNATI, OH — It's three in a row for Wittenberg's men's volleyball team as the Tigers rolled to a 3-0 win over host Mount St. Joseph Friday night, March 28, in Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) action.

Witt survived a close first set capturing the 'W' after 17 ties topping the Lions 30-28 in a back-and-forth battle. Then after three early ties in the second, the Tigers went up 5-3 and never looked back. In the final set, Witt trailed 6-2 then went on a 5-1 run to tie things at 7-all. The Tigers then outscored the Lions 18-9 to grab set three and the overall victory in scores of 30-28, 25-21, and 25-16. Witt tallied a hitting percentage of .341 to just .151 for the Lions. The Lions also had 20 attack errors in the match.

With the victory, the Tigers improve to 18-10 overall and 5-1 in the MCVL. Witt is tied for second with Baldwin Wallace in league play behind first-place Mount Union (6-0 MCVL). 

Mount St. Joseph drops to 10-14 and 2-4 MCVL.

Team Leaders  

  • Michael Yurk  (Indianapolis, IN / Bishop Chatard) led the team in kills with 15 on 25 total attacks for 17 points and a hitting percentage of .480. He also had four digs and two solo blocks.
  • Eli Halverson (Hamilton, OH / Badin) added eight kills on 24 total attacks for eight points. He also had four digs.
  • Carson Hill (Liberty Township, OH / Lakota East) led the team in assists with 31. He also had a team-high seven digs, two kills, two solo blocks and a block assist.

 Team Comparison

  • Wittenberg had 42 kills on 88 total attacks, 42 assists, seven blocks, two service aces, and 28 digs.
  • Mount St. Joseph had 34 kills on 93 total attacks, 33 assists, 25 digs, nine blocks, and five service aces.
