Men's volleyball topped in pair by Marian

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's volleyball team suffered a pair of defeats at the hands of Marian on Saturday in Greenville.  Both matches went four games.

The Panthers dropped the opening contest 25-22, 26-28, 27-25, 27-25 as they stuck close with the Sabres.

Manuel Benitez accounted for 24.5 of Greenville's points in the opening match as he posted a stat line that included 22 kills, one solo block, and three block assists.

Andrew Johnson accumulated a team-high three service aces, and Johnson joined Tanner Smith with the team-high in digs with 11.

In the day's second match, Greenville lost 25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20.

Benitez again led the Panthers in kills with 16, and he added two solo blocks and three block assists.

Greenville out-blocked Marian in the second match 12.5 to 5 but were hurt by giving Marian 17 points on attack errors and 14 service errors.

Corrigan was the libero for the second match and came up with 10 digs.

The Panthers (3-6, 1-5 MCVL) host Dominican on Friday at 7 p.m.
