Tigers Fall in Five-Set Thriller At Augustana
BETTENDORF, IA - The Tigers traveled to Iowa to take on the Augustana Vikings (IL) at Pleasant Valley High School. This match was a five-set thriller, eventually resulting in a loss by the Tigers by set scores of 22-25, 25-18, 21-25, 27-25, and 7-15. With this loss, Wittenberg dropped to 7-6 on the season.
In the first and third set the Tigers kept it close, but couldn't grab the lead in the late stages, losing set one, 22-25, and set three, 21-25. The second and fourth sets went in the Tigers' favor, with the team hitting an impressive .444 in the second set, and .323 in the fourth to go along with four total blocks. The Tigers won handily, 25-18, in the second set, and 27-25 in the fourth set. In the final set Augustana began with a 5-1 lead before Wittenberg got things turned around with a kill by Eli Halverson (Hamilton OH / Badin). The teams went back and forth until the Vikings went on a decisive six-point run to open up a 13-5 lead, followed by a two-point run to close out the match.
