ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Sabercats competed but were outmatched at the Fontbonne Triangular, taking straight-set losses to Fontbonne and Greenville.

The Griffins improved to 11-0 with the win over Maranatha, and it was Greenville's second win over the Sabercats in the last two weeks.

  • Results:
    • Maranatha 0-3 Fontbonne (19-25, 11-25, 20-25)
    • Maranatha 0-3 Greenville (10-25, 18-25, 18-25)
  • Venue: Durham Student Activity Center, Fontbonne University
  • Location: St. Louis, Mo.
  • Attendance: 50, 50
  • Records: Maranatha (0-14), Greenville (7-7), Fontbonne (12-0)

Maranatha had to resist both the momentum of Fontbonne's heavy attack and their groove of 10 straight wins. It wasn't easy, and Fontbonne got their revenge from the last time they faced Maranatha, when MBU took a set off the Griffins at MBU.

The Griffins were motivated, and they recorded an average of 16 kills per set in the match. On Maranatha's side of the net, Joel Smith led the Sabercats with six kills while Isaac McKee and Derek Wallis pitched in four and five kills, respectively.

Maranatha stayed competitive with 19 points in the opening set and 20 in the third, but the Griffins' attack proved to be too much for MBU to handle at the end of the day.

This was the second time in two weeks that Maranatha faced the Greenville Panthers, and the match yielded the same scoreline. Taylor DaFoe matched his first-match tally of 13 assists and Wallis (eight kills) and Smith (four kills) led the attack for MBU.

(Two-match totals)

  • Wallis: 12 kills and 15 digs
  • Smith: 10 kills
  • Dafoe: 26 assists
