MCVL's Automatic Berth Takes Trine Thunder to Loras

MCVL, U.S.A -- The Trine University men's volleyball team, fresh off its 2024 MCVL tournament win, will head to Dubuque, Iowa for its first-round match against CCIW-champion Loras. The Duhawks are hosting the four-team regional that also includes Cal-Lutheran and Dominican (Ill.).

Trine, now 19-6 on the season after MCVL tourney wins against Baldwin Wallace and Wittenberg, is coached by Will Dowdy. The Thunder dominated the league's individual honors as Hunter Haas was the Defensive Player of the Year and first team all-league for the fourth-straight year, and Ted Hofmeister took the Offensive Player of the Year honor. Haas was also the MCVL tournament MVP and was joined on the all-tournament team by teammates Kevin Boncaro (first team All-MCVL for the regular season) and Nick Woolley (honorable mention for the regular season). Trine's MCVL tournament wins were the first in school history.

Loras has lost only once this season (24-1 overall), taking a share of the CCIW regular-season title and then the conference's postseason tournament in the process. The Duhawks are coached by Dylan Ross, who was the CCIW Coach of the Year, and are led by three players who earned prominent spots on the all-conference team. Corey Mayotte was the Offensive Player of the Year; Joe Horn was the Setter of the Year and first-team All-CCIW choice; and Dorian Fiorenza was first team as well.

Match times for the two semifinals will be announced later today.
