Men’s volleyball team downed by Trine in three sets

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College men's volleyball team lost in three sets (25-19, 25-21, 25-14) to Trine (Ind.) University in a Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) match tonight at Hershey Hall.
- Final Score: Trine defeated Olivet 25-19, 25-21, 25-14

- Records: Olivet 7-11 overall, 0-3 MCVL; Trine 11-9 overall, 2-0 MCVL
- In the first set, the Thunder built a six-point lead, 12-6. The Comets answered with five straight points to trim their deficit down to a single point, 12-11. Trine came back with a 3-0 run to make the score 15-11. Olivet battled back and closed the gap to a single point at 20-19. The Thunder scored the last five points of the set to win it by a 25-19 score.
- Trailing 8-6 in the second set, the Comets went on a 5-0 run to go up 11-8. Trine responded with its own 5-0 spurt to take a 13-11 lead. Olivet scored two straight points on Thunder errors to level the score. Trine scored four of the next five points go up three points, 17-14. The Comets did not give up and used two kills and a service ace to tie the set at 17-17. The Thunder ended the set on an 8-4 run to win the set 25-21.
- Trine raced out to a 5-0 lead and never trailed in the third set.
- Junior Deontay Thomas topped Olivet with seven kills.
- Sophomore Quinn Dickerson was next with six kills, while posting a team-best .500 attack percentage.
- Junior Everett Haynes finished with a team-leading 15 set assists.
- Senior Dakota Galeazzi recorded a team-high 10 digs.
- Ted Hofmeister and Matt Stillman each had 11 kills.
- Sam Bhandal registered a game-high 37 set assists.
- Hunter Haas and Kevin Boncaro notched double digit digs with 11 and 10, respectively.
- Olivet hosts Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) University Friday night. First serve is at 7 p.m. from the Cutler Event Center.
