Men’s volleyball team defeated by Calumet-St. Joseph in three sets

WHITING, Ind. – The Olivet College men's volleyball team lost a three-set, non-conference match to Calumet College-St. Joseph (Ind.) this afternoon at the Rittenmeyer Center.
Final Score: Calumet def. Olivet 25-19, 25-14, 25-12

Records: Olivet 1-5 overall, Calumet 4-2 overall
- In the first set, Olivet scored the first point on a Crimson Wave attack error. Calumet answered with five straight points and did not give up the lead for the rest of the set.
- The Crimson Wave had a wire-to-wire lead in the second set.
- Olivet took a 1-0 lead in the first set before Calumet scored three consecutive points to go up 3-1. The Comets put the next three points on the scoreboard for a 4-3 lead. A 4-0 Crimson Wave run made the score 7-4. Two Olivet points created a 7-6 score.
- The teams traded points to make the score 8-7. The Comets did not get any closer for the remainder of the set.
- Freshman Thayne Bilicki and sophomore Deontay Thomas each tallied five kills.
- Sophomore Everett Haynes recorded 15 set assists.
- Junior Dakota Galeazzi collected a team-best eight digs.
- Francis Hauze finished with 13 kills.
- Pedro Castillo had 10 kills and did not have an error on 14 total attempts for a .714 attack percentage.
- Castillo also notched 18 set assists and 10 digs.
- Hauze and Gustavo Medina registered 11 digs apiece.
- The Comets are idle until next Friday and Saturday, February 11-12, when they participate in the Judson (Ill.) University Tournament. On Friday, Olivet faces Lincoln (Ill.) College at 11:30 a.m. and the host Eagles at 5 p.m. On Saturday, the Comets place Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University at 9:30 a.m. and Roosevelt (Ill.) University at 2:30 p.m. All four start times are EST.
