GREENVILLE, Ill.—The Fontbonne University men's volleyball team closed out its non-conference slate with a sweep over Greenville on Tuesday.
Final: Fontbonne 3, Greenville 0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-19)
Location: Greenville, Ill.
Records: Fontbonne 2-10, Greenville 1-6
How It Happened
In the first set, a kill from Grant Garza gave Fontbonne the 11-5 lead and that forced the Panthers to take a timeout. Out of the break, the Panthers trimmed the deficit down to 14-10 but the Griffins expanded it back out to 20-14 on Lee Kruetzmann's kill.
It was all Fontbonne the rest of the way for the 25-18 win. The Griffins had a strong first set with 13 kills and a match-high .417 hitting percentage.
In the second set, a kill from George Black had the Panthers down 10-9. However, the Griffins rattled off a 6-1 run with Garza hammering home the kill to give them the 16-10 advantage. The team never looked back from there en route to the 25-17 victory.
In the third, the Panthers this time around grabbed a 13-10 lead on a block assist from Doug Becker and Logan Dameris. After a Fontbonne timeout, the Griffins stormed back with a 6-0 run to lead by three.
Later, the Panthers tried to stay in it on a Fontbonne service error but that'd be the final point for Greenville with Garza finishing off the set and the match for the 25-19 win.
