MCVL Announces First Weekly Awards of 2020

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (MCVL.org) – The Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) announced its first edition of the 2020 weekly awards on Thursday afternoon. Fontbonne's Zach Rothstein was named MCVL Defensive Player of the Week while Jeremy Leyden of Mount Union and Jason Hascher of Mount Saint Joseph earned Co-Offensive Player of the Week plaudits.

Rothstein, an MCVL Second Team All-Conference selection in 2019, has racked up 70 digs thus far this season, averaging 2.41 digs per set. During the Griffins match with Missouri Baptist, Rothstein collected six digs, becoming Fontbonne's all-time leader in that category. He also recorded a season-high 21 digs in the Griffins' last match at fifth-ranked Benedictine.

Leyden facilitated the Purple Raider attack with 79 assists in two matches, averaging 9.88 assists per set. Mount Union, in its first two matches, attacked at a .235 clip and rolled up 11.25 kills per set in wins over Concordia-Wisconsin and Thiel.

Hascher, a junior outside hitter, has posted 62 kills in MSJ's five matches, averaging a blistering 3.44 kills per set. He has amassed double-digit kills in four of the Lions' five matches and his 3.44 kills per set rank third in the MCVL.

Rothstein earned his seventh career MCVL Defensive Player of the Week award while Hascher notched his second Offensive Player of the Week accolade. With Mount Union being in its first year in the MCVL, Leyden's award is his first and the first for the program.
