MCVL Announces 2020 Postseason Awards and All-Conference Teams

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (MCVL.org) - The Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) announced its Postseason Awards and All-Conference Teams on Monday, as voted on by the league's coaches, celebrating the accomplishments of 16 student-athletes, representing all six of the league's teams.

Adrian's Noah Marcinkowski headlines the first team and was named Offensive Player of the Year. First teamer Zach Rothstein of Fontbonne garnered Defensive Player of the Year accolades and Trine's Parker Beale, also a First Team pick, takes home the Rookie of the Year award. Casey Fitzpatrick, head coach of Adrian, earned the Coach of the Year honors.

Marcinkowski was the clear choice for Offensive Player of the Year after leading the conference in kills (344), kills per set (4.85), service aces (31) and aces per set (0.44). He was Offensive Player of the Week twice during the season and earned his third career All-MCVL award. The senior totaled 20-plus kills in all three of his MCVL matches and had double-digit kills in 17 of 19 matches overall.

Rothstein ends a decorated career as a Griffin, being a three-time All-MCVL selection, twice on the First Team. He earned two MCVL Defensive Player of the Week selections in 2020, finishing his career with an MCVL-record eight weekly awards. The senior racked up 2.79 digs per set, totaling 156 on the season. Rothstein amassed 1,084 career digs, the first player in program history to surpass 1,000 digs.

Beale made his presence felt as a freshman for the Thunder, averaging 2.88 kills per set. He was tabbed Offensive Player of the Week on Feb. 20 and posted nine double-digit kill efforts in 16 contests.

Fitzpatrick led the Bulldogs to new heights in 2020, getting off to a 3-0 start in MCVL play with wins over Trine, MSJ and Fontbonne. Adrian led the conference with 11.54 kills per set and 12.2 digs per set.

Fontbonne, the 2019 MCVL Tournament Champions, earned three First Team selections, Cameron Graves, Kyler van Rossum O'Connell and Rothstein.  Kevin Curley joined Marcinkowski on the First Team for Adrian. Justin Sibbel represents Mount Union on the First Team while Trine's Beale and MSJ's Jason Hascher round out the top group.

Adrian, Mount Union and Mount St. Joseph each had a duo selected to the Second Team. AC's Tedrick Gula and Joseph Campana earned their first-ever All-MCVL honors. Steven Grenier and Jeremy Leyden were picked for the Purple Raiders and Rey Sanchez and Jack Spohn of MSJ also were tabbed to the Second Team. Brock Pringle from Olivet and Fontbonne's Brayden Woolsey also garnered Second Team plaudits.

All four major award winners were first-time selections. The only repeat All-MCVL selections were Marcinkowski (three-time), Rothstein (three-time), van Rossum O'Connell and Hascher.
